In the studio where I paint (and continue to learn to paint), there are many other painters. Here’s a brief look at what was going on there last night.

Nemo!

Architecture!

When someone finishes a painting – especially when it’s one of their very first paintings – our teacher does something he calls a “framing ceremony”: he takes their canvas and displays it in a frame. This serves more than one purpose. First, it shows the painter that yes, that canvas is indeed done and doesn’t need to be fiddled with a second more. Second, it provides a tremendous sense of accomplishment for new painters. I’m sure it’s important in other ways, but I can’t think of those right now. Might be the paint fumes. Anyhoo, last night brought a framing ceremony for a painter’s second painting…

And it was lovely.

As for my own work last night, this is a detailed area of a large canvas…

And that’s all I’m sharing. For now.
