The above photo was taken on a day when I walked about 20 miles (for reals) around London. I had tagged along on a business trip and Mister was working all day, so I was on my own. It was a long day, and it was fun. Sort of. Being alone when you want is great. Wishing your best buddy was with you can bring an outing down a notch or two.

Anyhoo, the next day Mister had a morning meeting, then he returned to our hotel and we headed out together. We toured Buckingham Palace and later dined on Indian food. I remember it all because it was a fantastic day. As a poor kid growing up in the American south, touring Buckingham Palace was something I never imagined doing. I mean, the Queen’s house? Really?

Watching the Olympic Games has brought memories of this trip to the surface. There were other highlights – hiking in the countryside, staying at a former Rothschild estate, my first proper Shandy – but that day with Mister stands out in my mind as the brightest.

It was a grand outing. Royal, in fact.
